India will launch its first exclusive national professional golf league, 72 The League, in February 2026, aiming to create a franchise-based platform for Indian professionals and expand the competitive footprint of the domestic game.
The league will run from 21 February to 6 March, with the inaugural season staged across Classic Golf & Country Club, Jaypee Greens, and Qutab Golf Course in the Delhi NCR. It is being launched in partnership with Game of Life Sports (GOLS).
Each of the six city-based franchises will feature 10 professional players, selected through a player auction, with leading names from the PGTI circuit expected to compete. The format will be fast-paced match play, designed primarily for television and digital audiences.
Winners — along with franchise owners — will receive the Gentleman’s Jacket, a bespoke blazer created as the league’s signature symbol. Designed by Shantnu Nikhil, the jacket serves as the official couture marker of the league, awarded only to champions and team owners.
Cut in a clean single-breasted silhouette, the navy jacket features white piping along the lapel, pockets, and hem, referencing traditional sporting uniforms. Custom details include a 72 insignia badge, Shantnu Nikhil tape accents, and a bespoke inner lining illustrated with golfers.
“We’ve always wanted to design a jacket that represents golf’s precision and discipline,” said Shantnu Nikhil, describing the project as one that reflects the sport’s evolving identity in India while staying rooted in its core values.
Beyond competition, the league will also include Pro-Am events, fan engagement zones, live entertainment, and behind-the-scenes digital content, positioning 72 The League as both a sporting and broadcast product.
With franchises, auctions, and a condensed match-play format, 72 The League marks a shift in how Indian professional golf is packaged — and a clear attempt to bring its players closer to mainstream audiences when the first season tees off in February.
